5 Wellness Resorts for Sports, Spas, WooWoo, and Everything In Between

Whether you want back-to-back spa treatments or a full day of workout classes, these resorts cover the full spectrum.
Updated June 18, 2026

We hear a lot of buzz about wellness travel, but “wellness hotel” can mean wildly different things depending on the property and the traveler.

It can translate to anything from a spa-focused getaway with massages and long afternoons by the pool to rigorous pre-dawn hikes and nutrition-focused programming.

The many choices make this form of travel widely accessible, but also pretty overwhelming.

But the best one for you depends on what kind of traveler you are and the type of reset you’re actually seeking out.  If you want to schedule full spa days, for example, you probably won’t enjoy a stay centered around back-to-back bootcamp classes. Likewise, if you can’t sit still by the pool, you might not feel at ease in a sound bath.

Whether your ideal wellness trip involves longevity-focused routines, outdoor adventure, or simply a break from your phone for a few days, these five resorts offer very different approaches to feeling better on vacation, and when you come home too.

For Longevity: Hilton Head Health Wellness Resort & Spa in Hilton Head Island, SC

This property on South Carolina’s Hilton Head Island is a comprehensive wellness resort with 30 rooms in the onsite Sweetgrass Inn and also offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom private villas for guests who want additional space and privacy. Amenities include easy access to the area’s marshes, bike trails and Lowcountry scenery, outdoor pools, a cold plunge, sauna, fitness studios, a demonstration kitchen and the Indigo Spa, which offers massages, facials and body treatments.

You’ll want to stay on-site for the hotel’s Blue Zones experience, which focuses on longevity with a combination of immersive workshops, culinary demonstrations and customizable wellness sessions, such as group fitness classes and beach walks. Blue Zones was built around the lifestyle habits identified in the world’s longest-living communities, with an emphasis on movement, social connection, and plant-forward eating.

Guests who opt in to Blue Zones receive a workbook and detailed schedule at the start of the seven-day program and participate in supportive, expert-led group sessions that dive into the Blue Zones principles. I found the workshops very future-focused, emphasizing small, realistic changes I could build on at home, such as incorporating more natural movement into daily life, developing and maintaining social connections as we age and being open to more plant-forward eating. It felt like a beginning and not just a weeklong program.

Hilton Head Health also offers a full spa, personal training sessions, and excursions to nearby beaches and nature areas that showcase the island’s coastal scenery. All dining is included.

For Tennis Lovers: Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa in San Diego, CA

Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa in San Diego blends luxury wellness amenities with one of the country’s top tennis programs with 49 private casitas (studios and one-bedroom suites) set across 45 acres of gardens, citrus groves and walking paths. Guests have access to a full-service spa, fitness programming, tennis and pickleball courts, and multiple dining venues.

The resort’s tennis-focused experience centers around 15 on-property courts, including both Plexipave and clay surfaces, along with clinics, private instruction and programs designed for players of all skill levels.

Guests can book private coaching sessions, group clinics, and seasonal camps while also taking advantage of the resort’s spa, fitness classes and recovery-focused wellness treatments. The experience feels especially well-suited for travelers who want a more active wellness trip without sacrificing luxury.

For an Active, Unplugged Stay: Barnsley Resort in Adairsville, GA

Nestled in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains, Barnsley Resort is a 3,000-acre destination designed for analog time off. There are 142 accommodations across the resort, including rooms, suites, and newly renovated cottages.

For those who want to tuck their phone away and spend the day outdoors, there are lots of choices: kayaking on the resort’s 10-acre lake, hiking more than 10 miles of trails, playing disc golf through the historic gardens and meadows, or exploring the property’s expansive Beretta Shooting Grounds for clay target shooting, including skeet and trap-style experiences. More intentional wellness experiences include forest bathing and guided journaling walks.

The resort also offers golf, spa services, and multiple dining venues, making it easy to settle in for a long weekend without feeling the need to leave the property.

For a Nature-Focused Retreat: Castle Hot Springs in Morristown, AZ

Set across 1,100 acres in Arizona’s Bradshaw Mountains, Castle Hot Springs is a historic desert retreat centered around mineral-rich natural hot springs and wellness experiences that really draw from the Sonoran Desert landscape.

Every stay in one of the 31 standalone cabins or bungalows is all-inclusive, meaning meals and many wellness activities are part of the experience. The resort’s programming leans into outdoor immersion and restoration, with activities like thermal soaking rituals, floating sound baths, cold plunges, guided hikes, and sunrise horseback rides. There’s also yoga, tai chi, pilates, and other fitness classes; a full-service spa; and full packages aimed to reset the central nervous system.

Castle Hot Springs is especially well-suited for travelers seeking a more intentional, unplugged escape rooted in nature and slower living. In addition to its wellness offerings, the resort features farm-to-table dining, with most ingredients sourced directly from its on-site farm, open-air adventure programming with an energy that makes you want to slow down and stay outdoors.

For Luxury Travelers: Mandarin Oriental Costa Navarino in Messinia, Greece

Set along the coastline of Greece’s Peloponnese region, Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino has 99 ocean-facing guest accommodations, including suites and pool villas, with views of the Ionian Sea. It combines high-end resort amenities, such as access to championship golf courses, luxury dining, an indulgent spa and e-bike access.

The property is especially well-suited for travelers who want a luxury wellness resort experience without feeling confined to the resort itself. Guests have access to an expansive spa with massages, hydrotherapy, body scrubs, and facials topped with killer views. There are also multiple restaurants, nearby golf courses and tennis facilities throughout Costa Navarino, while still being close enough to explore the beaches, archaeological sites and historic towns of the Messinia region.

My massage there remains one of the most memorable spa treatments I’ve had, thanks not just to the ocean views but to the highly personalized experience: my therapist spent real time discussing my concerns and tailoring the treatment instead of rushing straight into the service.
